Champlain Vehicle Inspection Facility

Champlain, New York

Dembling + Dembling Architects, P.C. was the architectural design consultant to CHA Consulting Inc. on this project which included the design of a New York State Department of Transportation Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility and a New York State Police Patrol Station.

DDA was responsible for the architectural design of the two facilities to conform to ADA Guidelines and other state fire and building codes.

The 4,560 sf inspection facility consisted of two drive thru bays with recessed inspection pits which provide interior space for NYSDOT/NYSP Personnel to inspect trucks entering the country from Canada. The 4’-0” deep inspections pits allowed inspectors access to the full length of the underside of vehicles.

The 5,950 sf patrol station included office space for both BCI and Patrol offices, two accessible locker rooms/bathrooms, two interview rooms, evidence storage rooms, suspect processing room and other support areas.  The facility also contained an observation area which allowed DOT personal to weigh vehicles and either direct them to the inspection building or back on to the interstate.  The public entry and lobby allow public access to the police station and included an accessible public rest room.

The general construction cost of both buildings, excluding plumbing, mechanical, electrical, security and sitework was $4.3 million.

The construction of both buildings and related site work was completed in February 2020.
