Smithsonian National Zoo

Washington, D.C.

Dembling + Dembling Architects, P.C. was retained to renovate two existing food service operations and develop one new concept at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC.

DDA was responsible for all aspects of the design including the millwork, food service equipment, banners, signs and menu boards.  New “multi-choice seating”, tables, finishes, and lighting were specified to provide a more comfortable atmosphere in the new dining area and lounge.

Guest flow was optimized and service areas modified to increase efficiencies.  Following a one year, post project completion review, it was determined that the operation increased revenues by over 200%.  In addition, guest satisfaction increased significantly.
